CVC vs ENC: Bluetooth Call Noise Reduction Explained

On a handsfree or earbud box you'll see CVC or ENC next to "HD calls". Both clean up your voice for the person you're calling — they just do it differently, and knowing which is which helps you judge the spec.
CVC (Clear Voice Capture)
Qualcomm's software noise-suppression, running on the chip. It's single-mic in most budget units: the chip learns the pattern of steady background noise (fan, engine, AC) and subtracts it from your voice.
- Good at: constant, predictable noise.
- Weaker at: sudden sounds — a door, a horn, someone else talking.
- Very common on Bluetooth handsfree; often written "CVC 8.0".
ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation)
Usually dual or quad-mic. One mic (or more) points at your mouth, another samples the surroundings; the chip compares them and keeps only what looks like your voice. Because it has a spatial reference, it handles variable noise better than single-mic CVC.
- Good at: moving cars, busy offices, wind (with a wind-noise mode).
- Depends on mic count — "quad-mic ENC" genuinely outperforms "dual-mic ENC".
Which is better?
For call clarity in real Pakistani conditions — rickshaws, generators, open-plan offices — multi-mic ENC generally beats single-mic CVC. But a well-tuned CVC unit with a boom mic close to your mouth can still sound excellent, because mic placement matters as much as the algorithm.
