Screen Protectors and In-Display Fingerprint Sensors

If your phone unlocks with a fingerprint sensor under the screen, the wrong tempered glass can make it slow, unreliable, or dead. Here's what actually matters.

Why some glass breaks the sensor

Under-display sensors are either optical (a tiny camera photographs your fingerprint through the screen) or ultrasonic (Samsung flagships — sound waves map the ridges). Both read through whatever you stick on top.

• Thick glass (0.4mm+) puts too much distance between finger and sensor for a clean read.
• Air gaps from poor adhesion or bubbles over the sensor scatter the signal.
• Ultrasonic sensors are fussiest — some third-party glass blocks the sound waves entirely.

What to buy

The 0.26mm glass in our tempered glass range is tested against optical in-display sensors — thin enough not to add read distance.

After you apply it

You will usually need to re-register your fingerprints:

1. Apply the glass, let it fully bond (a few hours is safest).
2. Settings → Security → Fingerprint → delete existing prints.
3. Re-add each finger, pressing a little firmer than before and capturing more angles — roll the finger slightly during capture.
4. In display settings, turn fingerprint animation / brightness boost on if your phone has it; it helps optical sensors.

If it's still unreliable

• Check there's no bubble directly over the sensor zone — even a tiny one kills reads. Re-seat that corner.
• Clean the outside of the glass over the sensor; a smudge there matters more than anywhere else.
• Ultrasonic phone with non-compatible glass: there's no fix but to switch to a compatible protector or a TPU film.
