Borderless Glass Screen Protector vs Full-Cover Glass: What’s the Difference?

"Borderless" is one of the most-used and least-defined words on screen protector listings. Here's what it usually means, how it differs from the black-edge full-cover glass most shops sell, and which one suits your phone.

What "borderless" means

• Black-edge full-cover glass has a black ink border printed around its edge. The border hides the adhesive and the gap between the glass and the display's active area, and it blends into a black bezel.
• Borderless glass has no black frame — it's clear right to the edge (you'll also see "clear edge", "edge-to-edge" or "no black border"). Your phone's own bezel shows through the glass instead of a printed border.

Sellers use the word loosely, so always check the listing photos. Some "borderless" glass has a very thin border, and some is cut smaller than the screen.

Which should you choose?

Borderless pitfalls to watch for

• Borderless is not "more coverage". Coverage comes from how big the glass is cut, not from the missing border. Make sure the listing covers the full flat display and isn't a smaller cut with an exposed rim.
• Flat glass on a curved screen lifts. A borderless flat glass on a curved-edge phone will peel at the edges just like a black-edge one.
• Case fit matters. As with any full-cover glass, a tight case can push on the edge and lift it. Choose a case-friendly cut, or a case with a slight lip.
• Sensors still need care. Earpiece and camera cut-outs must match your model, and under-screen fingerprint readers are fussy — see screen protectors and in-display fingerprint sensors.

Applying borderless glass
